She's upset because she just drew a damning line between Ambrose and Kvothe in her head. I assert that she's not pissed about the ring because it's being used to track her. I think that, without meaning to, Kvothe turns the returning of Denna's ring into a statement that he's at least a little close to Ambrose. I think the silence returns and she becomes uneasy because she thinks Kvothe just revealed that he's the kind of person that, at the absolute best, can speak to Ambrose without being his enemy. I think she takes it to mean that Kvothe has the kind of relationship with Ambrose that would allow him to retrieve it from him without incident. Without assuming, how is Denna supposed to take that? Then, like the idiot that he is, Kvothe says he, ".got it from Ambrose," with no further elaboration nor explanation as to what that means. She's so overcome when she first sees it, it brings tears to her eyes. She shifted her weight from one foot to the other, and I felt the silence loom up between us again. “It is,” she said in amazement, a few tears spilling over. She turned it over in her hands, then removed one of her other rings and slid it onto her finger. ![]() “Is it really?” She reached out with both hands to take it. “Oh!” Denna’s hands went to her mouth, her eyes suddenly brimming. ![]() I'm going to skip past most of your post and focus on the last part: Tracking might also explain why she's so pissed he returns her the ring. (Which might be one of the other Adem schools) Definite thematic echoes of Kvothe and Denna's tensions. The way an ally could foil that is to swap-in Kvothe's hair during it's construction.Īnd, before you dismiss the association thematically, consider how Firefly's Malcom Reynolds thinks of Inara Serra's profession as Companion. If the thugs that "missed him in Analin" meant to kill someone else in Analin then were supplied the tracker by a client to avoid a similar mistake it would be hard to foil. Now take both and consider the possibility that Kvothe is someone's "leaf in the wind", maybe Denna's, or maybe they are both "leaves in the wind". FILM DESCRIPTION: A band of renegades on the run in outer space get in more hot water than they anticipated in this sci-fi action-adventure adapted from the television series Firefly. In another scene, after encountering the thugs in the alley, Kvothe attaches his hairs to leaves and lets them loose in the Questioning Hall/Hall of Wind to confuse tracking. In Firefly Hoban “Wash” Washburne says toward the end of the movie "“ I am a leaf on the wind. Take a look at the variant cover by Georges Jeanty as well as a four-page preview below.Totally a from-the-hip association here, but, IIRC, Rothfuss has shown that he is occasionally inspired by TV programs. Serenity: Leaves on the Wind #1 is available in comic stores and digitally from January 29th. It will be intriguing to see how he tackles a series that, while science fiction, is less phantasmagoric. ![]() Something that fans have been dying for some time.Īrtist, Georges Jeanty, is no stranger to Whedon properties with Buffy the Vampire Slayer Season 8 and 9 under his belt. … I know fans have been starving for story, so I don’t hold back in that regard.” This seems like he will be trying to please Firefly/Serenity fans, while at the same time creating something new. plow forward into the future of these characters and tell new stories which has been a lot of fun. In an article with Nerdist Zack Whedon has stated that wants to create “…something that feels like it is building on what is already there rather than just mimicking it. While Joss Whedon is only taking an executive producer role on the miniseries, his brother Zack will be penning the series. These developments could create some engaging ideas for narrative and character progression and it will be interesting where they are taken. Although, not all the character development is all negative, with River finding more stability and balance since the end of the film. ![]() As well as grief she must also come to terms with the child she will soon give birth to. This will be particularly true for Zoe who, along with the rest of the crew, is grieving over the death of Wash. The crew will be in hiding in a quieter part of the ‘Verse, while those who are pursuing are still after them.Īs a reader, you will see the surviving characters develop in a variety of manners, from grief or by finding more stability and balance. The new miniseries will take place nine months after the movie and will deal with the consequences and aftermath. Serenity: Leaves on the Wind will be a six issue miniseries written by Zack Whedon with art by Georges Jeanty (Buffy the Vampire Slayer). While Firefly might not have lasted six seasons and a movie, Dark Horse is bringing the much-loved series back in comic form. If you are like many who are still sad because Firefly was cancelled then I have a preview that will hopefully cheer you up.
